Merrythought Rag Bag “Paper Boy” Teddy Bear 17" – Limited Edition 62/500

A charming and highly collectable Merrythought Rag Bag teddy bear, handcrafted in England by the famous British teddy bear maker Merrythought. This delightful 17" (43cm) bear is from a limited edition of just 500 pieces worldwide, with this example being number 62 of 500.

The Rag Bag bear is made from soft, curly beige cotton-style plush, giving him a wonderfully traditional, slightly rustic appearance inspired by the resourcefulness of wartime “rag bag” materials. He has bright, expressive eyes, a carefully hand-stitched nose and mouth, small ears and a short-haired muzzle, giving him an exceptionally sweet and characterful face.

He is fully jointed and has brown suedette lower paw pads. His traditional tweed-style floppy cap adds to his wonderfully nostalgic appearance and gives him the unmistakable character of a vintage-style newspaper boy. He also has the Flat-foot Style.

This particularly charming bear is dressed as the Paper Boy for the Ironbridge Gazette and carries a natural cotton newspaper bag over his shoulder, complete with a red strap. The bag contains newspapers, while another newspaper is attached to his paw, adding a delightful storytelling element to this unique Merrythought design.

The bear has his stitched Merrythought labels attached to the side and base of his paw, together with his official swing tag and certificate of authenticity, which remain unopened.  He combines traditional English teddy bear craftsmanship with a wonderful piece of character and history & would make a lovely addition to a Merrythought collection and is now looking for a new home.
