A delightful and highly characterful Merrythought “Muffin Man” from the Streetcries Series, this charming vintage teddy bear was created as a tribute to the traditional British street vendors immortalised in the famous 18th-century “Cries of London”. Made in the United Kingdom by Merrythought, Britain’s last remaining traditional teddy bear manufacturer, this beautifully detailed bear captures the nostalgic character of a bygone era.

The Muffin Man is dressed ready for his rounds, warmly wrapped in a tweed scarf and wearing a brown felt cap with a traditional hessian apron. Around his neck he carries a wooden tray from which he sells his freshly baked muffins, complete with miniature brown paper muffin wrappings attached to the tray for an extra touch of authenticity.

Beautifully made from pure mohair in a warm golden-brown shade, he is fully jointed and features brown felt paw pads, with flat bases to his lower paw pads to help with posing and display. His bright brown eyes and carefully hand-stitched black nose and mouth give him a wonderfully expressive and endearing character.

Measuring approximately 33cm (13 inches) tall, this is a particularly appealing example for collectors of vintage Merrythought bears and limited-edition character bears. The original labels of authenticity remain unopened and attached, while the Merrythought label is stitched to the lower paw pad. This Limited Edition bear is numbered 113 of 750 and is in excellent condition.

With its beautiful mohair construction, detailed traditional costume and original authenticity labels, this is a wonderfully nostalgic and collectible piece of British teddy bear history.
