Dean’s Rag Book Company “Souchong” – Chloe Wilson Limited Edition Mohair Teddy Bear

A gorgeous and highly collectable teddy bear designed by artist Chloe Wilson for the Dean’s Rag Book Company, “Souchong” is a beautifully distinctive character from the Artist Showcase range. Released in 2010 as a companion to Chloe Wilson’s earlier design “Rhubarb”, Souchong was produced as a rare limited edition of just 50 pieces worldwide, this one being number 49.

Measuring approximately 32cm (13 inches) tall, Souchong is crafted from wonderful terracotta-orange ratinée mohair, giving him a wonderfully tousled and textured appearance. He is fully jointed and has an appealing, substantial presence, with large feet featuring beautifully sculptured and shaded paw pads.

Souchong has the distinctive low-set ears characteristic of Chloe Wilson’s designs for Dean’s Bears, also seen on her earlier characters Rhubarb and Kitty Willow. His sweet expression is completed by a beautiful rainbow-stitched nose, while a bow and bell around his neck add further character and charm.  He also has the Deans Limited Edition Black & Gold Metal pendant around his neck.

This bear forms part of Dean’s Artist Showcase collection and comes with his original stitched labels and certificate of authenticity, confirming his limited-edition status. With only 50 examples produced, Souchong is a particularly appealing piece for collectors of contemporary artist bears and limited-edition mohair teddy bears.

Now retired and no longer in production, Souchong is a lovely opportunity to acquire a rare Dean’s Rag Book Company character bear by a respected teddy bear artist. His unusual terracotta ratinée mohair, distinctive sculptured feet, low ears and colourful stitched nose give him a wonderful individuality and make him a striking addition to any teddy bear collection.
